Due to some sort of technical gaffe, this week’s 5 Corners will not be available this week on account of Mister Payne somehow losing the audio. With that said, I like to take this time to plug his twitter (twitter.com/nopaynenoglory) to where you can ask him how he lost the audio.

Basically what I’m going to do is recap the show from memory of the stuff we talked about as best as I can. If Payne wants to add his 2¢ into parts, he’s very much welcomed and encouraged to do so. We kicked things off with how I have a new twitter for both the show and live tweeting coverage of RAW, Smackdown, and if daring enough to do it….TNA IMPACT which you can find at Twitter.com/5CornersxSmootx for all sorts of hilarious stuff. If Payne wants to (highly encouraged if he’s reading this!), that he’s more than welcomed to stick his two cents in this special edition of 5 Corners

From there on out we discussed the reasoning behind Kane’s title run. Turns out that he might be retiring within the next year or so. Things could always change within the WWE but we commented that he’s been with the company for a long time, a career that technically dates back to the mid 90s with the whole Issac Yankum bit. If he does quit and call it a career, what better way to go out into the sunset with one last title run that’s a hell of a lot better than the 24 hour reign back in 1998.

HHH as we all know, is sidelined with a recovery to his bicep surgery the he underwent a few weeks ago. He is currently speculated to be returning in December with late October being optimistic. If WWE wanted HHH to be the one behind Nexus (HHH has said that he wants to be a heel again), they would have to continue the whole Nexus angle for a couple more months. The thing that Payne pointed out, which was a very good observation, was how it wouldn’t make much sense storyline wise why HHH would be behind the Nexus World Order. We both hope that he isn’t the one chosen to be behind running Nexus.

Vince McMahon recently commented on his character saying that it’s time to push young and new talent on TV and that his character eats up way too much TV time. A spokesperson from WWE said that anything could change at an instant within the company. Both me and Payne think that the Mr. McMahon character will at least be back one more stint because we both think that being punked out by a Justin Gabriel 450 splash won’t be the Swan Song for Mr. McMahon.

Shifting over to TNA, they’ve been recently running with the whole ECW schtick which has been getting no reaction from WWE and rightfully so. For starters, if WWE were to pursue legal action even in a losing fight, it would make (as Payne pointed out) TNA relevant and that WWE would actually care what TNA’s doing. However, the only way that TNA can get away with using the ECW name is by using it in a past tense form. Also, on this week’s tapings which I’m currently 20 minutes away from seeing on SPIKE as I’m typing this up is that Tommy Dreamer tried to start up a “EV2.0″ chant with the Impact fans but to little avail. “EV2.0″ or “Extreme Version 2.0″ will be the new name for the ECW group as hatched by Eric Bischoff. Both me and Payne thought this was very stupid on Bischoff’s part and Payne thinks that Bischoff is secretly trying to kill the company.

In addition to that, TNA’s main event for Hardcore Justice will be RVD vs Jerry Lynn in a non-title match. TNA has also contacted various past ECW stars to see if they want to be a part of the PPV. Shane Douglas wants to appear but only if he can have a match with Flair. No word on Justin Creidble yet (seeing how TNA has yet to find the right Olive Garden that he works at ). The pay for the noncontracted guys range from $500-$1000. One particular thing that left a sour feeling with Payne was that TNA talent appears to be taking a back seat to a bunch of old guys that probably can no longer work a match decently on a PPV and that if there were to be TNA talent on the show Payne feared that they would actually have ECW oldies go over on TNA young guys. I chimed in with that the talent is there and that rather than having all this trouble getting old ECW guys, transform the product into an ECW-like company AND THEN have the old guys come in an sorta mentor the young guns and provide insight. Both us mutally agreed on that this PPV will probably not help TNA whatsoever in the long run.

Also, we finally got some insight on Paul Heyman’s side of the bargaining. He apparently agrees that there shouldn’t be drastic change but rather using new talent as key stars while having veterans providing the credibility. Heyman didn’t support the Invasion angle and that Dixie Carter went along to do it anyway. Tommy Dreamer’s role was intially going to be Heyman’s both on and off screen. He continued with stating to Dixie’s face that with the legends that she has contracted, she could keep one and ax the rest and she didn’t understand why. Carter has been loyal to the stars on the roster and has been stubborn to giving anybody the power to hire/fire people in the company. Negotiations seem dull but not dead as TNA sees Heyman’s demands as bargaining tactic and TNA still hopes that a deal can be struck.
Payne had a huge rant that I can’t recall (and hope he fills his side in here) to my recent memory but he did say that Dixie just doesn’t seem to quite get it with the whole ECW thing and why it won’t work in 2010.

Getting back to RAW this past Monday, I thought it was a not so good show with Cena coming out for the third straight week acting all doofy until Jericho comes out and both of them argue who wants to be captain of Team WCW for (I shit you not) 15 minutes of the show. In fact all throughout the show Team WCW was showing wear and tear, the only thing missing was somebody running up to Cena and telling him that Bret suffered another stroke at the hands of his team falling apart. Only real thing that was lost from this segment during the recording was how Payne had some sort of fascination with The Great Khali’s ass or lack there of. Miz cashing in Money in the Bank and end up getting thwarted each time is getting real old too. Either he cashes it or he doesn’t, stop with all the fucking pussyfooting here. I claimed next week that Miz will be thwarted again by having a falling anvil dropped on him. Sadly, this doesn’t seem that far from the truth.

Impact wasn’t that great either. I missed the first 5 minutes of the show to where they got the silly Abyss shenanigans out of the way. One of the things I noticed and pulled away from this show was how
the TNA Championship Committee, Board of Directors, Figureheads whathaveyou….were able to reverse a referee’s decision in a match that got Madison Rayne her title back but for whatever reason they couldn’t overturn a dusty finish with the Machine Guns and Beer Money where Sabin got the contract and was clocked over the head w/ a beer bottle while the ref was down which led to Beer Money stealing the contract and the win. VINTAGE TNA BOOKING! Other than that, it was sickening to see Tommy Dreamer on his hands his knees cutting a promo badmouthing the WWECW while thanking Dixie for one more opportunity for the original ECW guys just to get a paycheck. I understand people need to get paid and whatnot but I mean there’s gotta be a line that you cross that nobody should step over no matter how desparate they may be for money. Payne chimed in with “Getting paid is getting paid man, nothing wrong with that.” which I guess shitting on your past for the interest for TNA is worth it. Also secondly, if it wasn’t for WWECW and Tommy playing a little hardball, he wouldn’t have received that title run before the brand folded. I mean instead of Christian, Swagger, Sheamus, Zeek…the WWE was actually nice enough to go over these guys’ heads to grant Tommy a title run. Anyway, the last 15 minutes of Impact was just Dixie and the old ECW guys cutting a promo which just didn’t sit well with me at all.

We debuted a sorta new thing on the show where if a week of news has so many stories that we’re unable to get to them or they’re so miniscule and lack a big reaction we’ll put them in this new segment called QUICK HITS or RAPID FIRE. (We haven’t exactly decided on which one yet.)

-Consequences Creed signed with WWE to a developmental deal. We both agreed that it’s going to be a long time before he actually becomes a somebody on the roster. I mean look at Christian since his return stint and he’s still a nobody on SD!

-Dawn Marie recently came out and admitted she used steriods during her tenure within WWE. She claimed that she needed to resort to steroids to feel like she needed to get ahead with the other divas. Payne joked that instead of steroids it should’ve been silicone, which I happen to agree with. I mean there was no need for her to use steroids, that’s what Beth Phoenix, Chyna, Jazz, etc (which ever one was around during her time) were for.

-WWE’s holding diva casting sessions in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York for women to be the next Diva(s) on WWE. I noted that it’s always nice to have backups when you have Alicia Fox on TV almost nearly killing off the ones we currently have. I guess Hawaiian Tropic ran out of models or something.

-Linda Hogan (50) recently got engaged to friend of the family Charlie Hill (21) where the couple will get married on Linda’s new yacht named “Alimony”. Most of the conversation was arguing whether or not Linda was attractive or not and if Charlie would in fact be tapping that. I say no, she looks like a leather bag. Payne disagreed and thought she was a MILF. Which led to Payne asking me if I thought Brooke was hot to which I replied with “At certain times and possibly in the right lighting.”. With Hulk recently engaged to his girlfriend who looks freakishly similar looking to Brooke, had no comment on the matter.

Instead, Hulk’s new personal goal in life is to “become the next Billy Mays”. Turns out Hulk wants to be a the next big TV pitchman. Hogan recently met up with reality star and infomercial star, Kevin Harrington to crank out a product which is called pumMax, a biodegradable pummice-based hand cleanser. Hogan’s lawyer said that “Terry brings decades’ worth of charisma and credibility to the marketplace…Billy [Mays'] unfortunate passing kind of left a hole. We all agree that he certainly has some big shoes to fill as far as Billy Mays is concerned, but I don’t think that any of us doubt that he has the ability to do it” Billy Mays upon hearing the news said (Soundbyte) “ARE YOU SHITTING ME!?” and followed up with (Soundbyte) “Billy Mays shitting all over your bathroom!”. I thought this was a ridiculous move on Hogan’s part seeing how all he’s in for with projects such as these is the money. With Billy, while he may have been loud and obnoxious, he at least connected with people whenever he sold his merch as conventions. With Hogan, I would imagine that bond being nonexistant where all he’ll do yell “BROTHER BROTHER, BUY THIS NOW BROTHER AND GET ONE FREE BROTHER BROTHER.” And once that cash well dries up, he’ll move on to something else. Payne disagreed and thought he would be pretty successful as a TV pitchman and brought up the Foreman Grill and how Hogan’s wants to try to get a slice of that action.
